Putumayo is a little traveled region of Colombia, far from mass tourism, with unspoiled nature and several indigenous communities. Here you can swim in its crystal-clear rivers, go tubing in different rivers and visit the Fin del Mundo waterfall, walk by a well-preserved green jungle filled with birds, butterflies, monkeys, and other endemic species. You will also visit indigenous communities, where you can learn about their culture, rituals, and worldview through authentic experiences.

What to take?

- Hat and/or other sun protection for the head and neck.

- Sunglasses to protect your eyes from the reflection of the sun.

- Long-sleeved shirts to avoid sunburn and mosquito bites during outdoor activities.

- Comfortable pants and avoid jeans.

- Waterproof, preferably quick-drying clothing or a rain poncho.

- Appropriate footwear for the hikes, trekking shoes are advisable and at least one pair of sneakers for change. Footwear can get wet during the hikes.

- Swimming suit, towels and water shoes, as there will be chance to take baths in the rivers, waterfalls and creeks of the area.

- Sunscreen and mosquito repellent.

- Protection for electronic devices since they may be susceptible to damages due to humidity and/or rain in the area to visit.

- Non-disposable rigid container to refill water (canteen or thermos).

- Hands-free backpack, please avoid wheeled suitcases as much as possible.

- Day-packs for carrying personal stuff, hydration, snacks and other elements during the outdoor day activities.

Itinerary

Day 1
WELCOMING IN VILLAGARZON
On this day, a person from the local team will be waiting for you at the arrival time at the airport of Villagarzon. Then you will be taken to the natural reserve “Donde se Oculta el Sol” to have lunch. After that, you will have a hike at the reserve to discover the wildlife of this area. At the end of the day, you will have dinner before having a night safari for a frog watching activity. You will spend this night in a rural lodge of the natural reserve.
Day 2
CAQUETA RIVER RAFTING
On this day, after breakfast, you will have a 40-mins. transfer to Puerto Limon. Once there, be prepared to be amazed by the waterfall La Honda and after that you will have a tubbing activity along its river. At noon, you will have a traditional lunch. Then you will a spectator of a cultural exhibition of the indigenous community Inga in Puerto Limon. At the end of the afternoon, you will have an authentic Amazon gastronomic experience.
Day 3
FIN DEL MUNDO WATERFALLS
On this day, after breakfast, you will have a full day in the breathtaking waterfall “Fin del Mundo”. You will have a 2-hrs. hike enjoying the pristine forest of the place and the refreshing rivers of the area, having the chance to refresh in its waters and observe different birds that inhabited the area. You will have a traditional inside a cave of the place. After witnessing the 80 meters waterfall you will start the hike back to your accommodation.
Day 4
HORNOYACO AND MANDIYACO CANYON
On this day, after breakfast you will have a 20-mins. transfer to a point where you will start a trek towards Hornoyaco waterfall. This is a 2-hrs. jungle trek that will end in a stunning 60 meters waterfall very little visited, with fresh water where you can swim and refresh. Later, you will have lunch and then we will take to the Mandiyaco canyon, where you can explore a place where the Mandiyaco river narrows in rock formations, forming a beautiful landscape there.
Day 5
FLIGHT OUT
On this day, you will have breakfast at the accommodation. Then you will visit the local stores and market place that allows you to explore and purchase unique items from the region. After that, you will have a transfer to the airport of Villagarzon two hours before your national flight.

ACCOMMODATION Lodge in a Natural Reserve and a hotel in the town of Mocoa, both with all the basic facilities to spend comfortable nights and. ACTIVITIES All the activities mentioned in the plan, all in shared tours and transportations of maximum 8 people. MEALS - 4 breakfasts, 4 lunches and 4 dinners. MEDICAL ASSISTANCE CARD The tour includes a travel assistance card for all the days that covers possible accidents, medical attention and emergency transportations for a quick response in case of being necessary according to the evacuation time during the activities and level of medical attention at the destination.

Recomendation

The ecosystems of the places to be visited are special and therefore it is important to follow all the recommendations of the guides to minimize the negative impact on them, while enjoying a pleasant experience. For this it is important to keep in mind that:

- It is necessary to have an acceptable physical condition, since you will do some hikes and outdoor activities in nature.

- It is important to reduce waste generation (single-use plastics). According to that, it is important to take your own rigid non-disposable recipient for liquids.

- Follow and abide by the instructions of the guides and authorities during each of the routes and tours.

- Take your cautions against mosquitoes, such as long-sleeved clothes, repellent, among other cautions you or your doctor might consider.

- You should count with the yellow-fever vaccination. Ideally you should have it at least 10 days before your visit to the destination.

- Currently, there is no major outbreak of contagious disease or mosquito transmission in the areas to be visited. However, if there is an outbreak or important biological risk in the destinations to be visited, it will be informed in a timely manner prior to the trip.

- We recommend the use of binoculars to wildlife watching and moisture-protected cameras.

- This trip passes by some indigenous territories; therefore, it is important a good and respectful behavior regarding their traditions and spaces.

- Excessive consumption of alcohol and/or psychoactive substances during the activities mentioned in the plan can be harmful to your health and safety.

WEATHER CONDITIONS & BILINGUALISM

It is necessary to be properly prepared for the weather conditions of the destination which are detailed below, but as this is an approximation, please note that they may vary. Also, keep in mind that it might be difficult to find bilingual staff or people at the destination.

It is advisable to carry cash for extra expenses during the trip since access to ATMs and dataphones at the destination may be limited or non-existent.

PHONE SIGNAL & WIFI

You will visit a destination where the signal varies according to your location, there will be places like the main areas of towns where there is good signal, but you will also visit several rural and natural areas where you might have poor or non-existent phone connectivity. The hotels offer Wi-Fi with decent signal.

TIPPING

Tipping is not mandatory, but if you consider you can tip the guides and/or other staff with an amount from 20.000 to 50.000 COP (5 to 12 USD approx.) per day of service.

SEASONS

- The dry season in Colombia ranges from Mid-November till March, in this period of the year you can expect to have easier hikes and less rain in general.

- The river levels will be lower and you can expect less mud and drier trails.

- Getting by car to off the road paths will be easier, making the transportation times shorter to those spots in very rural areas.
