Itinerary

Day 1 - WELCOMING IN MESETAS
On this day, you can have a 5-hrs. private transfer from any point in Bogota or can optionally take a public bus to the destination. You will have a free afternoon to enjoy the place and the great weather of this destination while having a great cup of coffee and fresh food for your meals, as this region is known for its fertile soil and several plantations in the mountains next to cattle ranches in the flatlands with a special culture of cowboys, own local music and dances.
Day 2 - GUAPE CANYON OR WATERFALLS HIKE
On this day, after breakfast you will have a hiking activity in one of the options available according to the weather and the season. In the dry season you will have a 3,5 kms tubing activity in the canyon of the Guape River, where you will see its rocks specially shaped by the water and the Guacharo birds’ caves. In the wet season you will visit the Telares de Cristal waterfall that with its 40 mts of height is impressive and a great place for swimming.
Day 3 - MARAVILLAS DEL GUEJAR
On this day, after breakfast you will have a transportation to the eco-touristic farm of Maravillas del Guejar for a day of exploration. Once there, you will visit a series of 5 attractions of the upper part of the Guejar River, visiting different waterfalls, natural pools, natural water slides and walking inside the river You will have lunch there and will get to know about the sustainable agricultural processes of the farm, before returning to your hotel in Mesetas.
Day 4 - CHARCO AZUL
On this day, after breakfast you will depart towards Charco Azul. This place use to be hidden due to the conflict, but now is a very well-preserved destination with dense vegetation, where you do some hikes in order to visit several waterfalls, canyons and even will get to know how combatants used to survive, hide and move in this jungle with beautiful landscapes and refreshing waters. In the afternoon, you will be taken back to the hotel.
Day 5 - GUEJAR CANYON RAFTING
On this day, you will be taken to the embarkation point for the Guejar Canyon rafting activity. After a technical briefing from the guides, you will have a 17-kms river journey in rafts with up to 8 people. On the way you will have several stops to admire the landscapes and some waterfalls along the river. At the end of the activity, you will have lunch at an eco-touristic farm. You can have the same 5-hours transportation back to or can take a public bus to Bogota.

ACCOMMODATION Eco-touristic farms where you cannot expect luxury, but instead stay at authentic local ranches with all the basic conditions for comfortable nights. What to take?

- Hat and/or other sun protection for the head and neck.

- Sunglasses to protect your eyes from the reflection of the sun.

- Appropriate footwear for the hikes, trekking shoes are advisable and at least one pair of sneakers for change. Footwear can get wet during the hikes.

- Swimming suit, towels and water shoes, as there will be chance to take baths in the rivers, lagoons and creeks of the area.

- Sunscreen and mosquito repellent.

- Protection for electronic devices since they may be susceptible to damages due to humidity and/or rain.

- Non-disposable rigid container to refill water (canteen or thermos).

- Day-packs for carrying personal stuff, hydration, snacks and other elements during the outdoor day activities.

Recomendation

The ecosystems of the places to be visited are special, therefore it is important to follow all the recommendations of the guides to minimize the negative impact on them, while enjoying a pleasant experience. For this it is important to keep in mind that:

- It is necessary to have an acceptable physical condition, since you will do some hikes and outdoor activities in nature. - It is important to reduce waste generation (single-use plastics). According to that, it is important to take your own rigid non-disposable recipient for liquids.

- Follow and abide by the instructions of the guides and authorities during each of the routes and tours. - Take your cautions against mosquitoes, such as long-sleeved clothes, repellent, among other cautions you or your doctor might consider.

- You should count with the yellow-fever vaccination. Ideally you should have it at least 10 days before your visit to the destination.

- Currently, there is no major outbreak of contagious disease or mosquito transmission in the areas to be visited. However, if there is an outbreak or important biological risk in the destinations to be visited, it will be informed in a timely manner prior to the trip.

- The adventure sport activities such as rafting might imply some risks, according to that, it is important that you make sure you have the necessary skills for these kinds of activities.

- We recommend the use of binoculars to wildlife watching and moisture-protected cameras.

- Excessive consumption of alcohol and/or psychoactive substances during the activities mentioned in the plan can be harmful to your health and safety.

WEATHER CONDITIONS & BILINGUALISM

It is necessary to be properly prepared for the weather conditions of the destination which are detailed below, but as this is an approximation, please note that they may vary. Also, keep in mind that it might be difficult to find bilingual staff or people at the destination.

It is advisable to carry cash for extra expenses during the trip since access to ATMs and dataphones at the destination may be limited or present problems in the area

PHONE SIGNAL & WIFI

You will visit a destination where the signal varies according to your location, there will be places like cities or the main areas of towns where there is strong signal, but you will also visit several rural and natural areas where you might have poor or non-existent phone connectivity. The accommodation offers Wi-Fi, but the signal can be very poor.

TIPPING

Tipping is not mandatory, but if you consider you can tip the guides and/or other staff with an amount from 20.000 to 50.000 COP (5 to 12 USD approx.) per day of service.

SEASONS

- The dry season in Colombia ranges from Mid-November till March, in this period of the year you can expect to have easier hikes and less rain in general.

- The river levels will be lower and normally the water will be clearer color where emerald-like color will appear with no rain in the previous days. If it rained the days before of each activity, the color of the river can turn darker.

- Getting by car to off the road paths will be easier, making the transportation times shorter to those spots in very rural areas.

- The rainy season starts in April and ends in mid-November, being May and October the rainiest months in Colombia and from June to September a softer rainy period.

- In the rainy season you can expect to see the waterfalls and rivers with high levels and more imposing, with a greener jungle.

- The rafting activity might increase its level and be faster during the rainy season.
