On this tour, you will be able to appreciate the characteristic fauna and flora of Leticia. Its blend of jungle and indigenous culture will allow you to discover conservation projects like Musmuki and Vista Alegre in the Peruvian Amazon. You will also discover Puerto Nariño, known for being the only eco-sustainable town in Colombia. On the fourth day, you will learn about the Maikuchiga Foundation, and on the last day, you will enjoy a morning canoe trip to the buffer zone of the Amacayacu National Natural Park.

What to take?

- Hat and/or other sun protection for the head and neck.
- Sunglasses to protect your eyes from the reflection of the sun.
- Long-sleeved shirts to avoid sunburn and mosquito bites during outdoor activities.
- Comfortable pants and avoid jeans.
- Waterproof, preferably quick-drying clothing or a rain poncho.
- Rubber boots are mandatory and at least one pair of shoes to change. The lodge can provide rubber boots, but we need to know in advance the show size of each visitor.
- Swimming suit, towels and water shoes, as there will be chance to take baths in the rivers, lagoons and creeks of the area.
- Sunscreen and mosquito repellent.
- Protection for electronic devices since they may be susceptible to damages due to humidity and/or rain in the area to visit.
- Non-disposable rigid container to refill water (canteen or thermos).
- Hands-free backpack, please avoid wheeled suitcases as much as possible.
- Day-packs for carrying personal stuff, hydration, snacks and other elements during the outdoor day activities.
- Flashlight.
- Personal documents and count with your own medical insurance.
- Personal medicines and first aid kit.

Itinerary

Day 1
WELCOMING IN THE AMAZON
On this day we will receive you at Leticia airport. Once you meet our guides, you will be taken in a public boat by the Amazon River with these departure times: (07:00, 10:00 & 13:30) towards La Ceiba reserve. After lunch you will visit the Mocagua island by boat and will do a short hike there looking for the first wildlife sightings at this place that offers and special ecosystem in the middle of the Amazon River, before heading back to the cabins.
Day 2
VISTA ALEGRE & MUSMUKI PROJECT
On this day, you will depart to Vista Alegre (Perú), where you will visit the Musmuki project. You will have different activities at the reserve such as jungle hikes, visit of the lakes and will observe the nocturnal monkey, which gives the name to the reserve, or if it is the season of high waters, you will navigate in a canoe through the flooded forest observing birds, monkeys, sloths among other fauna. Later on, you will return to Mocagua.
Day 3
PUERTO NARIÑO & TARAPOTO LAGOONS
On this day, after breakfast you will have a navigation by the Amazon River towards Puerto Nariño. Then, you will have a walking tour in this, which is the first fully sustainable town nationwide with no vehicles and a calm environment. Later on, you will have lunch and will visit the Tarapoto Lakes, where you can swim and see dolphins. Later on, you will return to Mocagua while enjoying one of the common great sunsets over the Amazon jungle.
Day 4
MAIKUCHIGA & MEDICINAL PLANTS
On this day, after breakfast, you will visit the Maikuchiga foundation that is a wildlife rescue center. You will get to know their conservation efforts of different monkey species, sloths, reptiles, among others. In the afternoon, visit the garden (chagra) of a traditional indigenous herbalist that will guide and teach you about the use of medicinal plants. At night you can optionally do a kayak activity to look for alligators and night aquatic fauna.
Day 5
FREE MORNING AND FAREWELL
On this day, you can do bird watching activity at 5:30 am, can do a kayak activity or can just relax in your last day here. You can return to Leticia on a public boat with these departure times: (07:00, 11:00 & 15:00). Once at Leticia, you can optionally have a tour by the city and the Ethnographic Museum of the Bank of the Republic. You will have a transfer included to the airport 2 hours before your flight to Bogota or other destinations.

ACCOMMODATION Ecolodge where you cannot expect luxury, but instead discover projects supported by NGO's with all the facilities for comfortable nights and run by indigenous people. ROOMS -Ecolodge in the Amazon: Standard double, triple or multiple rooms. ACTIVITIES All the activities mentioned in the plan, all in private tours and transportations, except when necessary. as wildlife observation, trekking, among other options. MEALS - 4 breakfasts, 4 lunches and 4 dinners TRANSFERS All land/water transportation in private vehicles or shared, when strictly necessary. GUIDANCE Spanish speaking guides (with bilingual guides/translators optionally) according to what you hire throughout the trip for all activities in private tours. MEDICAL ASSISTANCE CARD The tour includes a travel assistance card for all the days that covers possible accidents, medical attention and emergency transportations for a quick response in case of being necessary according to the evacuation time during the activities and level of medical attention at the destination.

- National and international flights. - Touristic taxes of the local entities: o Tourism tax of the municipality of Leticia that can only be paid in cash at your arrival to the airport: 30.000 COP (8 USD approx.). o Tourism tax at Puerto Nariño that can only be paid in cash at your arrival to the town: 22.000 COP (6 USD approx.). - Activities, additional drinks or elements not described in the plan. - Tips, snacks and souvenirs. - Personal items not described in the itinerary. - English or other language speaking translators. - Some guides and locals can expect to get some tips for helping you to carry luggage and other extra-services as that is common and it is part of the culture in the region.

Recomendation

The ecosystems of the Amazon area are special, therefore it is important to follow the recommendations in order to avoid or diminish any negative impact on them, as well as being prepared for a pleasurable experience, according to that:
- It is necessary to have an acceptable physical condition, since you will do some hikes and outdoor activities in nature.
- It is important to reduce waste generation (single-use plastics). According to that, it is important to take your own rigid non-disposable recipient for liquids.
- Follow and abide by the instructions of the guides and authorities during each of the routes and tours.
- Take your cautions against mosquitoes, such as long-sleeved clothes, repellent, among other cautions you or your doctor might consider.
- You should count with the yellow-fever vaccination. Ideally you should have it at least 10 days before your visit to the destination.
- Currently, there is no major outbreak of contagious disease or mosquito transmission in the areas to be visited. However, if there is an outbreak or important biological risk in the destinations to be visited, it will be informed in a timely manner prior to the trip.
- We recommend the use of binoculars to wildlife watching and moisture-protected cameras.
- You will visit a destination with a great level of conservation of ecosystems with special flora and fauna. However, wildlife sightings can’t be guaranteed, please take into account that they are in their natural habitat and humans can’t control or influence in their behavior.
- This is also a cultural immersion trip that takes place in indigenous territories; therefore, it is important a good and respectful behavior regarding their traditions and spaces.
- Excessive consumption of alcohol and/or psychoactive substances during the activities mentioned in the plan can be harmful to your health and safety.

WEATHER CONDITIONS & BILINGUALISM
It is necessary to be properly prepared for the weather conditions of the destination which are detailed below, but as this is an approximation, please note that they may vary. Also, keep in mind that it is difficult to find bilingual staff or people at the destination.

Leticia:

ATM´S
It is necessary to carry cash for extra expenses during the trip since the last town where you will have access to ATMs is Leticia, after that there won’t be any ATMs or dataphones in the rural areas to visit.

PHONE SIGNAL & WIFI
You will visit a destination where there is good phone and internet signal in the town of Leticia. Once you get into the jungle you won’t have any phone or internet connection.
There’s Wi-Fi with decent but not perfect signal in the dining area of the Lodge.

TIPPING
Tipping is not mandatory, but if you consider you can tip the guides and/or other staff with an amount from 20.000 to 50.000 COP (5 to 12 USD approx.) per day of service.
SEASONS
- Contrary to the seasons in the rest of the country, the rain and dry seasons occur in different months.
- Normally, the rainy (high waters) season starts in January and ends in May, however, it is starting to be more difficult to exactly know when the season will change.
- On high waters season you can easily get to several spots and destinations by canoe or boats while in the dry season you will have to walk longer distances.
- In the low waters season that starts from June to November there is less rain, and some river wildlife might be easier to spot, but when there is a strong drought the lagoons and lakes might have affectations to spot wildlife.
